The Sheriff's Underwater Recovery Team (SURT) was established to provide the department with the capability of responding to emergencies in and around water that require a coordinated "team" effort in response to a potential life-threatening incident.

Activated in 1998, the SURT is currently comprised of eight divers certified in open water diving.  Team members are both full-time officers and Sheriff's Reserve officers.

The team trains throughout the year to prepare for responses to drowning calls and other water related emergencies that require scuba divers or surface-swim rescue and recovery.  Other services provided include evidence recovery situations, such as stolen vehicles in the water, or areas where suspects have tried to dispose of evidence.

In addition to personal dive equipment, the SURT utilizes an 18' Crestliner boat designed specifically to assist with dive operations.
