How do I obtain a handgun permit?

You must be a resident of unincorporated Noble County.  Residents that live inside incorporated cities or towns must obtain a handgun permit from their local police department.

Handgun permits may be obtained from the Sheriff's Department Administration Office, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..

Fees:

Local fees marked by an asterisk (*) are the portion that is refundable if a license is not issued. 

Local Fees must be paid by CASH or MONEY ORDER payable to: Noble County Sheriff's Department

State Fees must be paid by MONEY ORDER payable to:  Indiana State Police Firearms Section

Four Year Hunting & Target:                  Local Fee: $10.00 (*$5.00)              State: $5.00
Four Year Personal Protection:            Local Fee: $10.00 (*$5.00)              State: $30.00
Lifetime Hunting & Target:                     Local Fee: $50.00 (*$30.00)           State: $25.00

Processing:

• The application MUST be filled out at the Sheriff's Department.
• You MUST present some form of picture identification such as a valid driver's license or 
  state identification card which provides your current address.
• When completing the application, press firmly as you will be making three (3) copies.  
  Answer all questions truthfully!
• After completing the application, the clerk will notarize the application and you will be 
  fingerprinted.
• A criminal history (background) check will be conducted prior to providing the application
  to you for mailing to the Indiana State Police Firearms Section.
• A receipt will be provided to you for the fee paid to the Noble County Sheriff's
  Department.  It is your responsibility to mail the application with the required state fee to
  the Indiana State Police Firearms Section.
•The State of Indiana will mail the appropriate permit directly to you.  Please allow up   
  twelve (12) weeks for processing.

Warning:

An Indiana handgun license is not recognized by most other states and may not allow you to legally carry a firearm outside of the State of Indiana.  Always check with authorities before attempting to transport a weapon across state lines.
